12 - 14 September 2013
We invited writers at every level of experience to submit a completed stage play that had not been produced before.
Given that there were no rules, we were hoping to be surprised by the submissions and to receive a range of plays from the perhaps unheard and unseen writers that are producing great work, but not yet had the opportunity of exposure as well as those who just like the fact that there are no rules or they could be broken.
We were overwhelmed by the fantastic response from writers and have decided to programme our inaugural Write Club event with a series of rehearsed readings in September 2013.
Come along to this great new writing event!
Come and support the writers and actors.
See some exciting new plays at Pay What You Can prices!
Stay for a drink and talk in the bar afterwards.
The rehearsed readings start at 8.30pm at the White Bear Theatre Pub, 138 Kennington Park Road, SE11 4DJ
Thursday 12 September - Extracts from Tortoise and Conference
Tortoise by Clara Brennan. Directed by Hannah Quigley. A hyper-sexualised teenage girl pays a visit to her mysterious neighbour.
Conference by Rick Lyons. Directed by Linda Miller. At a corporate conference, calculating marketing rhetoric attempts to reduce consumers to pawns. But it is the nihilistic Stephan that Mark must contend with, as he tries to persuade him to take part in an appalling act of revenge.
Friday 13 September Selling the Sky by Bill Hodson. Directed by Linda Miller
In Selling the Sky Nikki knows you can't put a price on our countryside and aims to prevent a new shopping centre being built helped only by a long-dead native American chief. Is she just a madwoman seeing ghosts or the only one talking sense?
Saturday 14 September Laridae by Sarah Wallis. Directed by Hannah Quigley.
Laridae is a Yorkshire village falling into the sea and Mylo, one of her fishermen, is falling in love with his boat. The villagers say she's unlucky and he's tempting fate naming her after his missus, boats don't like that sort of thing...
