I question the first definition above as I think courage is still possible even when fear is present. In fact even more courage is perhaps evident when fear is present.
I started to think of the people both famous and in our personal and everyday lives who we believe to be courageous. Here are some for starters who hopefully need no explanation.
Nelson Mandela; Gandhi; Steve Biko; Mohammad Ali; Aung San Suu Kyi.
There are already many wiki's and yahoo answer lists but I am after the truly unsung, untold courageous people.
